Who are they?

Soul Food is a Catholic charismatic prayer group which began in 2003 with a handful of people meeting weekly in a central London parish. It has now grown so much that every week between 70 and 100 people in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s attend the gathering.

Fiona O'Reilly is the service team leader.

What does the future hold for Soul Food? “God knows”, says Fiona, “literally. His ideas come
first and we are here simply to share His joy, the Good News of Jesus Christ…and if people are interested in finding out more we would like to encourage them to just “come and see” for themselves”.  More details on the group and what’s happening can be found on the
website.

The Meetings:

They meet every Thursday at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Central London (just off Tottenham Court Road)from 7 to 9pm.

An evening at SoulFood typically starts with praise and worship, followed by a Bible teaching or talk on a particular theme. Each evening ends with a time of response such as prayer ministry, small group discussion/faith sharing or an opportunity for prayer or adoration. In order to grow together in our faith and friendship, we also make time for a drink together after our Thursday evenings of prayer as well as organising various other social gatherings.

The People:

The majority fall into the 25 to 45 age bracket and are working in central London. Many find the 7 to 9pm slot on a Thursday convenient because they can get there straight from work and it provides an opportunity to meet like minded folks who face many of the same challenges in living their Catholic faith in daily working life.

The fruit:

While Thursday night gatherings and formation days are a big part of Soul Food, it is not simply a ‘holy huddle’. Some of the fruit of Soul Food has been taking part in street evangelisation with Spirit in the City, helping people go deeper in their faith through running ‘Life in the Spirit’ seminars and starting a Soul Food New Zealand group. Also, a number of members have married and started families, while some are currently exploring a vocation to religious life, and others take time out of their jobs to do missionary work in countries like India and Brazil.
